With the right tips you can keep your employees trained on the snow, ice, and in any situation facing your team.
1. Share Simple Safety Reminders
It is up to you to make safety a top priority all year. That means that you need to deliver safety reminders outside of your monthly or weekly safety training. Your team will get their day started right with a little bit of safety.
2. Evaluate Employee Engagement
It isn't enough to take actions to improve employee engagement. You have to evaluate it too. That means taking the data from your safety training and other activities and taking action based on the results. The place to start is with a high level piece of data. For example: Who are your disengaged employees?
It is really up to you what qualifies someone as being disengaged. If you need help getting started though you can figure out who is not consuming/participating in your communication. You might be surprised to find out that some of your disengaged employees might have a different number, not know how to consume the communication/training, or might have an issue with their work email.
3. Don't Forget Your Engaged Workers
Often we focus on the employees who are not doing their safety training and following quality procedures. Have you taken a moment to look for your employees who are doing the right thing? It is time you recognize these employees with some sort of incentive or recognition.
4. Reward The Right Behavior
It is easy to fall into the trap of handing out rewards or increased pay for more products produced or injuries avoided. However, this is a sure fire way for people to put safety as a side note, or worse, to let injuries go unreported. Instead reward your employees for doing their safety training. You can also give our rewards for employees that have gone above and beyond what they are required to do. This is the right way to reward your employees.
