Involve Everyone in Your Communications Plan

Decorative

The world is constantly changing and your communications plan should too.

A very special little kid, Kid President, once said, “Things can be better, things don’t have to be the way they are.” He continues to go on and talk about Martin Luther King Jr, reminding us that his dream was for a world where, “...character, not color, would matter.”

I think we are getting closer. We all love coming into a work environment where everyone accepts each other. America has come a long way — discriminating between races, gender, age, religion, etc. We are slowly making strides one year at a time.

A recent university stated that employees that are open about their religious beliefs and feelings are more likely to experience job satisfaction.

“For many people, religion is the core of their lives," he said. "Being able to express important aspects of one's life can influence work-related issues, such as job satisfaction, work performance or engagement. It can be beneficial for organizations to have a climate that is welcoming to every religion and culture.”

As the world is changing it is up to you, and everyone else, to embrace the change and help create a positive environment for every single member of your team. People have avoided religion and politics in lunch room chatter but instead try to embrace it! If your employees are open about their beliefs and feelings your office will be united and educated.

Start the Sharing

It is important to interact and share with your employees. If you want to create a work environment with a communications plan that encourages diversity… it starts with you. Share with your employees something that makes you different. This could be something from your culture or religion. It could even be a fun family tradition.

Make sure to interact with your employees. It will show them that you consider them not only a colleague of yours but someone with whom they can express themselves in front of. When you interact with each of your employees it will begin to create a bond. Your employees will feel more comfortable sharing if you are showing you care.

Celebrate Every Holiday

Every culture has holidays that they celebrate during the year; from Christmas and Ramadan to the Feast of Purim. . Most holidays involve food, which is an amazing way to get your employees talking. Encourage your employees to bring in food from their culture during the holiday season.

If you are able to learn more about holidays and particular practices of your team members, this fosters an important understanding and respect for each person.

With these two tips for your communications plan, it will not only bring your co-workers together, but it will make them feel more welcome.

Wondering just how you will figure out what holidays and events to celebrate. You can send out a brief survey and video through Ving!
